At Sequoia Brass & Copper (SBC), we have over four decades of experience as a trusted supplier of high-quality nonferrous metals. Brass is one of our particular specialties, and we offer various alloys and shapes to deliver comprehensive solutions. Learn more about the brass as well as other products we carry at SBC.

Brass Supply

Primarily consisting of copper and zinc, brass is a nonferrous metal alloy. It provides good corrosion resistance, malleability, and machinability. Brass is also low friction, has a relatively low melting point, and is easy to cast. The metal even has antibacterial properties. Available in variable coloring, brass has common applications in industrial projects, automotive parts, electrical components, architectural features, and musical instruments.

With SBC’s competitive pricing and shipping rates, you won’t need to look anywhere else to find high-quality brass for your unique project. We carry sheets, plates, tubes, bars, rods, and pipe shapes of multiple brass types (stock and online sizes listed in the tabs) to accommodate varied needs and project requirements. Our team can shear or saw-cut your brass product to order based on the specifications you submit using our request a quote form.

Alloy 260 Brass

Also called yellow brass, cartridge brass, or 70/30 brass, 260 brass is a copper-zinc alloy with good corrosion resistance against atmospheric conditions. It has the highest ductility of all the metals within the yellow brass series, helping it to maintain products’ structural integrity. With a smooth yellow finish, 260 brass also has a pleasing aesthetic for more decorative applications. It’s made up of the following:

  • Copper: 68.5 to 71.5%
  • Zinc: 28.5 to 31.5%
  • Iron: ≤0.05%
  • Lead: ≤0.07%

260 brass provides superior workability to facilitate processes like machining, bending, cutting, and forming. While it’s not a metal we’d recommend for welding operations, under the right circumstances, the alloy can be compatible with brazing and soldering processes. Common applications of this brass variety include:

Alloy 272 Brass

272 brass is a versatile option for its many advantages, which include strength, high hardness, corrosion resistance, and electrical and thermal conductivity. It’s also a more cost-effective choice compared to other brass materials. Additionally referred to as yellow brass, and C27200, the metal’s composition includes:

  • Copper: 62 to 65%
  • Zinc: ~37%

The copper-zinc alloy includes small amounts of iron, lead, tin, and nickel, as well. With good formability, it’s a good material for cold forming processes but not hot working. 272 brass works well in the following applications:

Fasteners

Pump Cylinder Liners

Alloy 330 Brass

330 brass, or C33000 brass, is resistant to corrosion and rust, even in the presence of saltwater. Also, with its optimal surface finish, it typically requires little to no deburring or finishing after cutting and machining. However, it’s a simple material to polish. Its chemical makeup is as follows:

  • Copper: 65 to 68%
  • Zinc: 33.5%
  • Lead: 0.2 to 0.8%
  • Iron: ≤0.07%

Another affordable choice, 330 brass offers good workability and is compatible with forming, cold working, machining, cutting, soldering, and brazing processes. It’s not, however, well-suited to welding. Its common applications include:

Liners

Alloy 353 Brass

353 brass, alternately known as engraver’s brass, combines strength, wear resistance, and excellent machinability into one highly versatile alloy. It’s suitable for manufacturing small or precision components. Its approximate chemical composition is:

  • Copper: 62%
  • Zinc: 36.2%
  • Lead: 1.8%
  • Iron: Trace amounts

The material provides good cold workability as well, which enhances its hardness and strength. It exhibits exceptional solderability but isn’t ideal for welding. Among its other characteristics, 353 brass can withstand force and frequent movement, making it applicable for:

Adapters

Alloy 360 Brass

Also going by free-machining brass, 360 brass offers the highest machinability rating of any of the copper alloys. This corrosion-resistant material has high tensile and yield strengths that, along with its smooth and golden appearance, lend it popularity across industries. It’s a dense metal made up of approximately:

  • Copper: 61.5%
  • Zinc: 35.5%
  • Lead: 3%
  • Iron: 0.35%

While it delivers maximum machinability and can handle hot forming, we don’t recommend using 360 brass in cold forming or welding processes. The alloy is applicable in making the following products:

Central Heating System Components

Alloy 464 Brass (Naval Brass)

One of the alpha-beta or duplex brasses, 464 or naval brass is a strong, hard material known for its superior corrosion resistance to both fresh and saltwater. It stands up well against mildly aggressive environmental conditions. The copper-zinc-tin alloy consists of about:

  • Copper: 59%
  • Zinc: 40%
  • Tin: 1%
  • Lead: ≤0.2%

464 brass has impressive hot forgeability and workability, being a fair option for machining, soldering, and brazing production methods. For its corrosion resistance and durability, naval brass is popular in both the marine and industrial sectors. Common applications include:
