At Sequoia Brass & Copper (SBC), we specialize in nonferrous metal materials. We’ve been supplying metal fabricators throughout North America with metal rod, hollow bar, and wearplate since 1983. One of the material options we offer our customers is high-quality bronze.

Bronze is a metal alloy formed by blending copper and tin in various amounts. This sturdy and durable metal is harder than copper and brass and can be used for architectural, industrial, agricultural, and automotive applications. Bronze metals cause minimal friction and are non-sparking, making them ideal for creating bells, tools, and weapons.

Alloy 385 Architectural Bronze

Architectural bronze is not technically bronze at all. It’s a type of brass. The affordable material is beneficial for its superior resistance to corrosion, lasting durability, and non-sparking properties. Also known as C38500, 385 brass, and simply architectural bronze, this alloy consists of the following:

  • Copper: 55% to 59%
  • Lead: 2.5% to 3.5%
  • Iron: 0.35%
  • Zinc: Trace amounts

This brass material lends itself to numerous fabrication techniques due to its formability, such as machining, bending, pressing, soldering, brazing, hot forming, and butt welding. Compared to free-cutting brass, or C36000, its machinability suffers just a bit because of its lower lead content. C38500 is also compatible with polishing and annealing finishing treatments, the latter of which will enhance the material’s malleability and ductility. However, alloy 385 is not a good choice for cold forming processes or non-butt welding. It has applications in the architectural, construction hardware, industrial, consumer, and weaponry markets.

Alloy 932 High-Leaded Tin/Bearing Bronze

Another name for C93200, SAE 660, or CDA 932, alloy 932 high-leaded tin bronze or bearing bronze offers exceptional corrosion resistance. It also has high tensile and yield strengths, at 35,000 PSI and 20,000 PSI, respectively. This copper alloy can maintain its shape as part of machining processes and accommodate lower levels of lubrication as well as journal irregularities. With the properties to adhere to standards SAE J461 and J462 along with ASTM B271 and B505, the material construction of this alloy is as follows:

  • Copper: 81% to 85%
  • Tin: 6.3% to 7.5%
  • Lead: 6% to 8%
  • Nickel: 1%
  • Iron and antimony: <1%

Alloy 932 is compatible with machining, soldering, brazing, and heat treating processes, but it’s not recommended for components that require welding. The alloy is well-suited to light-duty use as wear-resistant components like sprockets, gears, cylinders, impellers, pump and valve parts, automotive fittings, and more. It can also withstand corrosion due to brine and ocean water exposure. We offer the material in solid bars, hollow bars, and rods that we cut to order.

Alloy 954 Aluminum Bronze

Particularly popular for its optimal balance of mechanical and physical characteristics, this durable copper alloy delivers high ductility, moderately high tensile and yield strengths of 85ksi and 32ksi, and good machinability. The material provides resistance to abrasion, wear, cavitation, and oxidation, and its aluminum content also imbues it with excellent resistance to corrosive substances. C954 aluminum bronze, which is designated as C95400 in the Unified Numbering System (UNS), is made up of:

  • Copper: ≥83%
  • Aluminum: 10% to 11.5%
  • Iron: 3% to 5%
  • Nickel: 1.5%
  • Manganese: 0.5%

This material is a good choice for soldering, brazing, and gas-shielded or coated metal arc welding, but it’s not appropriate for oxyacetylene welding. C95400 is an optimal material for valve bodies, seats, and guides as well as high-strength clamps, worm gears and plates, aerospace parts, marine hardware, and more. Its strength, lower coefficient of friction, and deformation and fatigue resistance also lend it to high-impact and high-load applications or those that would expose components to vibration and shock.

Bronze Material Supplier: Rod, Hollow Bar, & Wearplate

As a premier bronze distributor, SBC offers bronze rod, hollow bar, and wearplate to fulfill your project requirements.

Bronze Rod Supplier

We provide bronze rod in various materials and sizes. Our alloy 932 rod is available in 13-inch lengths, with outer diameters (ODs) ranging from 0.375 inches to 6 inches. Rod consisting of alloy 954 also come in *13-inch segments, with ODs starting at 0.5 inches and going up to 5.5 inches. Rods of these materials are favorable options for applications in the oil and gas, marine, and aerospace sectors.

*Call for our team for other alloys which are available up to 105 – 144 inches in length.

Bronze Hollow Bar Supplier

At SBC, bronze hollow bar comes in 6.5- or 13-inch lengths of alloy 932 and alloy 954 material in varying thicknesses. The inner diameters (IDs) of our alloy 932 hollow bar start at 0.5 inches and go as large as 9.5 inches. Their ODs range from 1 inch to 10.5 inches. For the alloy 954 hollow bar, the IDs and ODs range from 0.75 inches to 7 inches and 1.25 inches to 9 inches, respectively. These aluminum bronze bars have many potential end uses, including fasteners, fittings, washers, and machinery components.

Bronze Wearplate Supplier

Our alloy 954 bronze rectangular and square wearplate are both 13 inches in length. Rectangular wearplate is available in widths of 1 inch to 8 inches and thicknesses of 0.25 inches to 3 inches. In a square shape, we offer bronze wearplate ranging from 0.75 inches to 3 inches thick. A versatile option, bronze wearplate is ideal for creating anything from valves and gears to bushings and bearings.
