ALLOY 101 OXYGEN-FREE COPPER (OFE/OFHC)
Alloy 101 OFE Copper is the highest purity grade of copper at 99.99%. OFE stands for oxygen-free electrolytic and replaces the acronym OFHC. It has been electrolytically refined in a carefully regulated, oxygen-free environment to reduce the level of oxygen to .001% or below.
The main properties and benefits of OFE copper are: |
- Immune to hydrogen embrittlement
- Very adherent oxide scale
- Highest homogeneity and reliability of all copper grades
- Highest possible electrical conductivity of as high as 101.5% IACS
- Highest possible thermal conductivity
- Superior weldability, brazability and solderability
- Extremely good for electron beam welding
- Most preferred formability and impact strength
- Highest purity standardized copper
- (impurities <40 ppm and no single impurity higher than 25 ppm)
|
For the certified grade, only specially selected cathode copper is used, and ingots produced in the middle of the operation period – a period in which operation conditions are most stabilized – are designated.

USAGE OF HIGH PERFORMANCE OFE COPPER (for more information click here)
For industrial applications, oxygen-free copper is valued more for its chemical purity than its electrical conductivity. OF/OFE grade copper is used in plasma deposition (sputtering) processes, including the manufacture of semiconductors and superconductor components, as well as in high vacuum devices such as particle accelerators. In any of these applications, the release of oxygen (and/or other impurities) can cause undesirable chemical reactions with other materials in the local environment.
