Alloy 172 Beryllium Copper

Sequoia Brass & Copper sells alloy 172 Beryllium copper. Beryllium copper (BeCu), also known as copper beryllium, beryllium bronze and spring copper, is a copper alloy with 0.53% beryllium and sometimes with other alloying elements. Beryllium copper combines high strength with non-magnetic and non-sparking qualities. It has excellent metalworking, forming and machining qualities. It has many specialized applications in tools for hazardous environments, musical instruments, precision measurement devices, bullets, and aerospace. Beryllium-containing alloys create an inhalation hazard during manufacturing due to their toxic properties.

BeCu Alloy 172 is a high-strength beryllium copper alloy made for plastics molding applications. BeCu Alloy 172 is widely used for injection molding tools or as cores and inserts in steel molds. When used in a steel mold it effectively cools hot spots, reducing or eliminating the need for cooling channels. Our copper meets ASTM B194 standards and is ideal for an array of applications and fabrication processes. Beryllium copper has excellent electrical and thermal conductivity. Beryllium copper comes in bar, plate, strip, rod, shapes, tube and wire.
